Quality Jobs Characteristics

Our alliance is driven by seven defining characteristics of a quality job:

Organizational Culture

Every employee is an integral part of the organization, recognized for their contributions, valued for their role, and treated with respect, particularly by leadership.

Employees have access to opportunities and resources to advance into better roles, both within the organization and beyond. Promotion and advancement paths are clear and transparent, and employees have access to high-quality training and educational opportunities provided by the employer or through labor-management partnerships.

Skills & Career Advancement

Employees have the right to form and join unions, and can engage in protected, collective activities without the risk of retaliation. They are actively involved in decisions regarding their work, how it is carried out, and the overall direction of the organization.

Worker Empowerment

Full-time and part-time employees are offered comprehensive benefits that support economic security and mobility. These benefits include health insurance, retirement plans, workers' compensation, work-family benefits such as paid leave and caregiving support, and any additional benefits identified through worker engagement. Employees are supported and encouraged to fully utilize these benefits.

Benefits

Qualified candidates are assessed based on relevant skills, with selection criteria aligned to job performance requirements. Unnecessary educational, credential, and experience requirements are minimized to focus on the essential qualifications for the role.

Recruitment & Hiring

Workers have a safe, healthy, and supportive workplace with respectful treatment, job security, and predictable schedules. Electronic monitoring is clear and consistent, with worker input. They are free from harassment, mistreatment, and retaliation, and are properly classified under the law. Use of temporary or contractor labor is minimized.

Job Security & Working Conditions

All workers receive a stable, predictable living wage, excluding overtime, tips, and commissions. Pay is consistent, transparent, and aligned with industry standards, with wages rising in line with skill development and experience.
