Earning, Learning, and Inspiring Through Youth Apprenticeship

Kennedy Sendelbach, a high school student from Evansville, is on her journey toward a career in Early Education through the Youth Apprenticeship (YA) program. Working at Levi Leonard Elementary School, Kennedy is immersed in hands-on experiences that fuel her passion for teaching.

“At my job, I get the opportunity to work one-on-one with students in the classroom, as well as small groups. I also do lunch and recess duty for first grade and Kindergarten,” Kennedy shares. “I love seeing students every day and the smiles on their faces when they have a realization or succeed. And the daily hugs are the best!”

Kennedy’s enthusiasm extends beyond the classroom. Her related coursework at Blackhawk Technical College complements her apprenticeship, allowing her to apply her learning right away in the classroom. “I’m really enjoying my classes because I can directly relate what I’m learning to what I see taught in the classroom. It’s an incredible experience,” she says.

Grateful for the mentors who guide her along the way, Kennedy appreciates the invaluable support they provide. “My mentors have given me the opportunity to assist in the classroom and learn from them. I’m so thankful for their guidance.”

Through the YA program, Kennedy has gained insights into her career path that no traditional class could offer. “I love going to my apprenticeship every day. It’s given me a new perspective on the career I’m interested in and taught me more than I ever imagined I could in a class.”

With her dedication, enthusiasm, and love for education, Kennedy is well on her way to inspiring future generations of learners!

The Youth Apprenticeship Program in south-central Wisconsin is administered by the Workforce Development Board of South Central Wisconsin, in partnership with the Dane County School Consortium and the Jefferson County School to Career Consortium.
